my sister’s favorite animated short
i didn’t love this movie. emma thompson was fabulous, as always - in fact, all the acting was superb. however, i wasn’t gripped as much as i thought i would/should/could be by the story. of course, i was sympathetic toward the forbidden love story line and GOD DAMN matthew goode is H.O.T.
the movie is beautifully shot, very picturesque, as are all the settings they chose. the script is good. the music is beautiful. the makeup is good. the costuming left a little to be desired, i thought.
i saw it with hiko at the landmark. GASP! i know. i know. but it wasn’t showing at my beloved arclight cinemas, alas. i have to say, the landmark has a better concessions selection albeit more expensive. and their bathrooms make more sense. also, the parking is free. but their picture and sound quality leave much to be desired. (plus, i have to drive 45 minutes across town to get there.) at least they have assigned seating.
i read this article on yahoo and had a laugh.
“While sex is not an Olympic sport it is expected to be an activity in the Beijing village housing 10,500 athletes, all of whom are in great shape and with plenty of free time on their hands once knocked out of the Games.”
so they distributed 100,000 condoms to the athletes…
“‘There are many young, strong, single people in the athletes’ village and, like everywhere, some will fall in love or other things so we need to make condoms available,’ Ole Hansen, spokesman for UNAIDS China, told Reuters.”
Ole Hansen is of course a Dane. hundreds of thousands of condoms lying around and you can typically blame the scandinavians.
awesome movie. jannone, bru and i went to see this last night and even though i generally don’t like comedies, this was great. i sat through the first half thinking it might be painful to watch actors play lame actors on screen - that it’d be too close to our real lives dealing with lame actors… you know? but then they put on their show in the second half and i was riveted. FANTASTIC. as we walked out, we were talking about eric eisner (one of the producers) and how we haven’t seen him since we had a bar-b-que at his house many moons ago with djimon (amistad, blood diamond) and we ran smack dab into him! shut up i know! (thank you micah.)
here’s a photo of djimon and jannone at our last eric eisner bbq…
aw… the squids are in love…
we were discussing dealing with certain issues at work that are frustrating. here’s a clip of the tail end of our conversation:
her: i’m just going to get a job doing blah-blah-blah instead of this because i’ve realized that i hate people! no, i don’t really hate people… i hate stupid people.
me: and they’re everywhere!
her: yes! and that’s why i liked working with kids… because kids know they’re stupid and you can tell them why they’re stupid and how to not be as stupid. with adults, they’re just stupid and they like to broadcast their stupidity from the rooftops because they’ve got to make sure their voices are heard!
this short plays before wall•e in the theaters and is available on itunes
thanks ariane…
