brideshead revisited

i didn’t love this movie.  emma thompson was fabulous, as always - in fact, all the acting was superb.  however, i wasn’t gripped as much as i thought i would/should/could be by the story.  of course, i was sympathetic toward the forbidden love story line and GOD DAMN matthew goode is H.O.T.

the movie is beautifully shot, very picturesque, as are all the settings they chose.  the script is good.  the music is beautiful.  the makeup is good.  the costuming left a little to be desired, i thought.

i saw it with hiko at the landmark.  GASP!  i know.  i know.  but it wasn’t showing at my beloved arclight cinemas, alas.  i have to say, the landmark has a better concessions selection albeit more expensive.  and their bathrooms make more sense.  also, the parking is free.  but their picture and sound quality leave much to be desired.  (plus, i have to drive 45 minutes across town to get there.)  at least they have assigned seating.

awesome movie. jannone, bru and i went to see this last night and even though i generally don’t like comedies, this was great. i sat through the first half thinking it might be painful to watch actors play lame actors on screen - that it’d be too close to our real lives dealing with lame actors… you know? but then they put on their show in the second half and i was riveted. FANTASTIC. as we walked out, we were talking about eric eisner (one of the producers) and how we haven’t seen him since we had a bar-b-que at his house many moons ago with djimon (amistad, blood diamond) and we ran smack dab into him! shut up i know! (thank you micah.)

here’s a photo of djimon and jannone at our last eric eisner bbq…

when damien and pauline were still here, damien had us all watch this one hungover morning as he loved the roald dahl series as a kid. it was a cute family movie that might be a little scary for really small children but fine for kids over 4 i think.

the dark knight

Monday, August 4th, 2008

brad and i went to see batman on his birthday after a crazy drunken beach debauchery on pauline & damien’s last night in the states. i was worried that we would fall asleep during the movie due to the hangovers but IT WAS SO FREAKING LOUD and really really good. i recommend seeing this in the theater. we saw it at the dome of the arclight. aaron eckhart was awesome and had the best character arc. gary oldman and heath ledger never disappoint. maggie gylenhaal was probably the weakest link as far as main characters go.

we went to see this last week and i expected nothing.  no, that’s not true.  i’m lying.  again.  i expected it to be horrible.

now, i don’t know if it’s because i went in with low expectation or if the movie was actually decent but i had fun.  i laughed and i enjoyed myself.  i wouldn’t necessarily recommend seeing this in the theater but it’s a fun rental!

i was lucky enough to see it at the DGA at the outfest! screening with a room full of gays, so i enjoyed it although it was loooong and slow and they didn’t do “fernando.” the dance scenes were pretty fun, especially with all the hot young boys in swim trunks. meryl streep did a good switch from miranda priestly to quirky hippie momma although she’s definitely not a singer but did an admirable attempt. be sure to stay through the end credits which may be the best part of the movie. you can wait to rent it/put it in your netflix cue.

for a trailer, click HERE

finally saw it and ABSOLUTELY LOVE IT PEOPLE!!

so cute.  it’s actually good as a stand-alone movie, not just for an animated flick.  i highly recommend it.  see it in the theaters as the artistry is beautiful.  i’ll bet you any money that dvd sales/rentals of “hello dolly” is going to go up this summer.
