Mormonville

Josh and I are in Salt Lake City for his grandmother’s 80th birthday party. We are staying with his parents good friends, Yasha and Lara. They are very Russian and very fun.

Salt Lake is special for many reasons. One - the Mormons, but that’s a given.

Two - fried Twinkies. Fried! Twinkies! And the people here are mostly thin, fit & trim snowboarding types. Yet, they make fried Twinkies in restaurants.

Three - in order to buy/sell alcohol in this town, you have to operate under the guise of private establishments. Therefore, all patrons must be members of said establishment and each time you want to frequent said establishment, you have to show your membership card. What most people do is purchase membership cards everywhere they go and in the end, they wind up carrying around a “brag book” type of wallet with unfolding accordian pages going on seemingly forever with all their membership cards. Interesting.

Tomorrow we’re going to head out to Park City before going to the Russian birthday party. Can’t wait!!
